WHAT IS THE GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE MASTERPLAN?

A plan for the future that is good for the environment, good for wildlife and good for people.

Managed green spaces have many benefits for humans and wildlife. Dust and pollutants are filtered from the air which benefits all of us. And we have the benefit of a beautiful natural landscape on our doorstep.

The Kilminchy Green Infrastructure Masterplan is the most ambitious project ever undertaken in our area. Since the start of 2019 resident volunteers have planted over 1,000 new trees that are developing into a young woodland. The presence of this woodland will have a major beneficial impact long into the future. This is just the first step in a plan that in time will change the face of Kilminchy for the better. The first part of a wheelchair friendly lake trail has been completed which means that, for the first time, residents can safely walk around the small lake. It is hoped to install a similar trail around the two remaining lakes in due course.   

 Much of the funding for these project comes by way of grants so the cost to members is minimal while the benefits will be substantial.
