An introduction to the Green Infrastructure Plan (GIP).
In the middle of 2018, the Kilminchy Management Company embarked on a new and exciting project aimed at enhancing our area with an ambitious, forward thinking green infrastructure plan that would improve the amenities for residents while developing the green spaces in a eco friendly way. Good for the environment. Good for people.
Following on from the Kilminchy Community by Community meeting on 22 October and based on the feedback from that meeting, Greenpine Consultants presented their draft outline plans for discussion at the second meeting on 26 November.
Following these consultation meetings and taking on board the comments from members present, Greenpine Consultants has produced the final plans which you can read by clicking here. These plans will be put before a special EGM to be held in the Killeshin Hotel on Thursday 6 June for consideration and voting.
The Green Infrastructure Plan for Kilminchy is very ambitious, visionary and far reaching and if implemented in full or even in part, it will have a lasting positive impact on Kilminchy.
Greenpine Consultants Comment:
The plans have been developed with the aim of maximising the benefits (social, economic and environmental) for the whole community. The plans include new outdoor community spaces, improved walking/jogging trails around the Estate and to the lakes, a feature play park and other natural play features, improved recreational facilities (multi-use ball courts, outdoor gym trail equipment), new park furnishings (benches, art features/sculptures etc.), improved access to the commercial centre, woodland and wildflower meadows (with access) and habitat boxes for wildlife. The plans have also been developed to maximise the opportunities for community building through events, volunteering, social clubs, etc.
