The Greening of Kilminchy

Three Days in March.

In recent years many iconic places all around the world have gone “Green” to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. In March this year, Kilminchy went green but in a different and more lasting way.

Volunteers from around the community, young and old, came together to plant over 1,000 new trees that will serve the area well long after all of us are gone. It could be considered as the present day community’s gift to the future generations. We can’t thank enough Brian Gaynor from Greenpine Consultants and Chairman of the Irish Wildlife Trust (Laois/Offaly Branch) who supplied the trees and a considerable amount of elbow grease. We are eternally grateful for his assistance.

We think the pictures tell the story better than words. Special thanks to Stan Henderson of the Leinster Express for the photographs.

Over three days in March, the Kilminchy community came together to plant a greener, healthier future for the generations to come.
